Elora Hot Air Ballooning

Our Aerial Adventures are designed for people who want to live out their childhood dream of flying. We currently offer three types of upward bound trips. One is a hang-gliding journey that will allow you to soar high above and experience the sensation of flight similar to that of a bird from a location that is only minutes away from Ontario's Capital (Toronto). Our second trip offers you a chance to explore the gorgeous Kawartha Lakes region and cottage country with the help and guidance of a certified instructor by hang-glider! Our third adventure, one of which many have been patiently waiting for, is the serene and peaceful flight that can only come from standing in the safe and stable gondola of a hot air balloon. Q: When do balloons fly?
A: The balloon flies usually just after sunrise and one or two hours before sunset. This is the time of day when winds are calmest and most stable. For the AM flights we will meet at approximately 6am with the tour ending at approx. 930-10am. For the PM flights we will meet at approximately 6/7pm with your flight finishing at around 10-1030pm. Upon booking we will tell you the precise meeting time for the day of your tour.

Q: What kind of weather is needed?
A: Ballooning is very weather dependent. Calm winds and no storm activity or rain are a must. Ideal winds are three to six miles per hour.

Q: How long is a flight?
A: The actual flight time averages about an hour, possibly up to an hour and a half. However, the entire ballooning experience, including the pre-flight preparation and the post-flight celebration & champagne toast, will likely take three to four hours altogether.

Q: Can you steer a balloon?
A: Strictly speaking, no! The balloon goes where the wind takes it. However, the winds at varying altitudes blow in different directions and at different speeds, so the pilot climbs and descends to different altitudes to alter direction. There is a chase vehicle that follows the balloon via the ground and is there to retrieve the balloon after landing.

Q: How high do balloons fly?
A: Most balloon flights occur between 500 and 1500 feet above the ground, but balloons can fly treetop level or go much higher or lower, depending on the terrain.

Q: What should passengers wear?
A: The temperature varies depending on the time of year. It is best to dress as though you were going for a walk, so you can wear clothing appropriate to the temperature that day. Layered casual clothing is best. A light jacket (in the summer months you may want it for before or after the flight when temperatures are still cool), comfortable enclosed shoes or boots, and slacks comprise the best outfit.

Q: What if the flight is cancelled?
A: If a flight is cancelled due to inclement weather, the flight will be rescheduled for another day agreeable to all concerned.

Q: Who should not fly?
A: Anyone who has had recent surgery, those with severe hip or back problems, frail elderly people, and pregnant women are unable to fly. If you are unsure, check with your doctor. For safety reasons, we generally cannot fly children under the age of 12, unless they are at least 4 feet tall and weigh a minimum of 100 lbs.

Our pilots are highly qualified and commercially licensed by Transport Canada to ensure that your ballooning experience will be a safe and memorable one. Reservations are required. To reserve the date of your choice, please give us as much advance notice as possible.

Your Hot Air Balloon adventure begins when you meet your Pilot and Flight Crew approximately a 1/2-hour before sunrise in a quaint little town known as Elora. The sunrise flight allows you get gain a unique perspective about the surrounding country lands with common sights including dew sparkling off the grasses as it is slowly headed by the rising sun and deer grazing the fields in their early morning ritual. The crisp refreshing feeling of being awake (in a hot air balloon!) at dawn will rejuvenate you!

At the launch site, your flight crew will brief you on your upcoming balloon adventure. Then, you will watch with awe as your balloon takes shape before your eyes, ultimately standing more than 10 stories tall. Once fully inflated and ready for take off, you will climb into the gondola and begin your Hot air ballooning adventure that will give new meaning to the word serenity.

During your flight you will get a spectacular bird's eye view of the picturesque Elora and Fergus area as you gently drift over the countryside where you will watch out for wildlife and take in the magnificent views. Depending on wind direction you may gently drift over the Elora Gorge, and follow the river as it winds and carves the landscape. You will be able to wave hello to campers and fellow Grand River country residents and take pictures of the marvelous country views.

After about an hour in the air, your pilot will be on the look out for a safe landing spot. This will add to this exciting experience as you slowly and gently glide down towards the ground, here the balloon may almost skim tree tops and corn fields which definitely gives you a glimpse of the 'bird eye view'. Once on the ground, together with your crew, you will share in the oldest of ballooning traditions; a champagne toast (or juice for those driving) and here you will revel in the peace, tranquility and beauty that you never knew existed! After the celebration your crew, pilot will be shuttled back to the original meeting spot where you can make your way home or enjoy a wonderful meal in some of Elora's finest restaurants.

Flights are approximately 1 hour in length, however we do require you for up to 3 1/2hours.

Included: Hot air balloon tour, services of a professional pilot, and a traditional champagne toast.
