5 Day – 6 Night Canoe Tripping in Algonquin Park with Spirit Point
Arrive at Spirit Point to the aroma of home cooked cuisine emanating from our rustic Dining Hall. Afterward take some time to bask in the beauty of the natural surroundings while getting orientated with all the hidden treasures that Spirit Point has to offer. The afternoon will be spent outfitting and packing for the upcoming Algonquin Interior experience. An early evening paddle on our private lake will reveal an abundance of wildlife sharing the waterway with you and setting the stage for an epic adventure into the interior of Algonquin Park. A hearty blend of home-style cooking accompanied by some northern hospitality awaits your return from the water sanctuary that is, Gull Lake. After taking in the sunset from the end of the dock, a local wildlife expert will entertain you with stories from yester year and tales from the present. A campfire will guide you back to the bunkhouse where you will spend the night full of anticipation for what the next 5 days will bring.
Awaken to the smell of freshly baked muffins and a variety of breakfast treats to arouse the camper in everyone. A quick shuttle to the park entrance and the journey begins. The first day will be spent crossing Lake Kawawaymog where Tom Thomson rendered his own interpretation of an Algonquin sunset. The mouth of The Amable du Fond River welcomes you into the inner sanctum of Algonquin Park. Meander through the river with a keen eye for wildlife, as the river is a vital artery to Algonquin Park and all the creatures that share its bounty. A shoreline lunch will replenish the energy exerted and provide a much needed boost to paddle across the West arm of North Tea Lake and locate a campsite at the entrance in the East arm. Once camp is set and the fire prepped for cooking, relax and bask in the beauty of Algonquin Park. Your experienced and professional guide will impart their knowledge of the local flora and fauna, whilst ensuring you have the most memorable Algonquin Park canoe experience. The campfire will lull you to sleep, but only after some rousing fire craft and stimulating conversation.
An early morning mist will greet you at the dawn of the morning while you enjoy breakfast on the shores on North Tea Lake.. After we break camp and the boats are launched, the journey continues northeast into Manitou Lake. A day of paddling will be highlighted with sights and sounds of early morning Algonquin and an 11 km area that was flattened by a tornado in 1973. A lengthy portage will give way to a beckoning campsite on the edge of Three Mile Lake. The scenery is a relaxing end to a day of paddling and portaging. Once again a delicious dinner is prepared in true wilderness fashion and if you're lucky the evening air will be alive with the cries and howls of the indigenous wolves.
The Algonquin mist will lure you back onto the water after breakfast and let you know there is more to reveal just up around the bend. This day will see the diversity of Algonquin Park as you canoe through four little lakes before arriving at Maple Lake, a quintessential Canadian setting. The perfect place to take part in another shoreline meal and enjoy the serenity of the Interior that seems to get more divine the further into the trip. The journey heads north from here following Maple Creek to the rapids on the edge of Kioshkowki Lake ( Algonkin for ''Lake of many Gulls''). Spend the night in Wolfe Bay and dine on the shores of the most northern lake in Algonquin Park.

DAY 4
Meet up with the Amable du Fond and start heading back west to the great Manitou Lake. Contemplate life and enjoy the serenity of this magnificent lake as you wind southwest into the East arm of North Tea Lake. As you taste the delicacies of your last shoreline lunch in Algonquin, begin to recount the landmarks you passed on your journey into the interior and spend some time exploring the rapids. A leisurely paddle into the West arm of North Tea Lake will reveal your island campsite which will be the final one for this adventure. Experience the thriving island ecosystems of the Algonquin interior and revel in the light of the campfire as you reminisce about the last five days.
DAY 6
A smorgasbord of food awaits your pallet this morning as traditionally all the remaining food from the trip is laid out for sampling. Break camp for the last time and paddle west toward the mouth of the Amable du Fond. If you paddle quietly, the moose will bid you farewell as you weave your way down the river and head for the favourite destination of the late Tom Thomson. As you near the end of the river, the shores of Kawawaymog Lake are a glimpse back into civilization, with the put out a few kilometres away and the friendly staff from Spirit Point waiting to greet you and hear all the stories of the last six days. In true Native American fashion your journey will come full circle when we pull through the gates of Spirit Point and return to the point where your journey began. After a culminating ceremony, your journey with us will come to an end. But the team at Spirit Point hopes the memories created will bring you back again to share in the beauty of Algonquin Park and all it has to offer.
